Mirror, mirror on the wall...

We are in West Des Moines right now. Greg is on the committee for the EMS conference that is taking place, so Kyla and I came to hang out and my friend, Emily, is coming later for lunch and shopping! Anyway, the closet doors here are mirrors, and I think this is the first time Kyla has ever seen herself in a full-length mirror. She thinks it is great! She is kissing herself and "high-fiving". It's hillarious. This picture isn't the best, because I took it with my phone, but still funny! Kyla is an absolute hit here with the EMS personalle. We've gone downstairs and spent some time in the committee room, and everyone just LOVES her. She's so social and has a great personality!
...The other day, I said Kyla was no where near crawling, but all the sudden she has learned to move! She scoots a little on her butt, and she will bend over to her knees from a sitting position, but then fall on her belly. I'm just now waiting for her to figure it out and take off... Although, I'm not ready to child-proof the house! We'll just let it happen without pushing the issue!
Now, I need to take a moment for myself... Yesterday I weighed myself and I am back to pre-baby weight (Woo Hoo!!) I feel good and am excited about it! Yesterday afternoon, I went to Maurices, because I had a coupon and felt like a little shopping. I was trying on some jeans in the dressing room, and had to ask for a SMALLER size... so exciting!!! Now for my next goal... pre-marriage weight. Ha!

Mommy and Me

It's just me and Kyla at home today. I was in the basement putting away some of Kyla's clothes that are too small, and decided to dig through a box of my old clothes that my mom gave me. So, we had a little "dress up" session!

Here is Kyla- 7 months old. I believe I wore this dress to my Aunt Mary's wedding when I was only a few weeks old.

This complete outfit was mine when I was little- including the shoes and the chair!

Kyla loved this rocking chair. Today was the first time I've hauled it out for her. Right away she discovered that it rocked and wanted to feel and play with it! I'm surprised she didn't rock herself off of it.

This is me- 6 months old. I am wearing the outift that Kyla is wearing above. Hmm... I wonder where she got her good looks from (and her bald head!)

Snot Happens

Kyla still has her nasty cold, and it is messy! Half-way through the day and everything Kyla has come in contact with has snot all over it- my clothes, her clothes, the high chair, the toys, and the dog! It doesn't matter how much I suction or wipe her nose (which she hates!) it just keeps running. Her cough is also terrible and usually makes her gag from all the sputum she can't get up. But... she still acts like her happy self and she hasn't had any fevers, so we'll just deal with it.
Tomorrow Kyla will be 7 months old! She has mastered sitting, and "falling" gracefully. She's not anywhere near crawling though. She won't feed herself either. I've tried to give her little peices of food, but she just drops them on the floor if she gets a hold of them at all, so we'll stick with the baby food for now. She still loves avacados, and also likes bananas, squash, sweet potaoes, carrots, and pears. We're working on beans and peas, she's not real excited about either one.
She loves to talk! Most often you will hear her saying "Baa", "Mum", or "Da" or just squeal and scream, which is entertaning as well. She knows she's funny and will wait for your response, then laugh with you... so cute!! She is very interested in everything she isn't supposed to have, like TV remotes, cell phones, dog toys, and paper. And she shows her worst temper when you take them away!
I can hear her right now waking up from her nap, talking, and playing with her pacifier. So I guess that's it for today...

It's been awhile...

I haven't been updating much in the last few weeks... we've been busy! I have been working extra shifts at the hospital (Tis the season to be sick) plus Kyla and I have both had nasty colds, but I think we're getting better. I am so paranoid of Kyla getting RSV. It's been going around town, so hopefully we can avoid it!
Last weekend we enjoyed a few days in Omaha with my parents and sister. We met there because it is a good half-way point. We stayed in a hotel, hung out in the pool, went shopping, and went to the zoo. The zoo was actually really cool, even in the winter. Only the indoor exibits were open, but the animals were really active and entertaining!
This is short and sweet, but I gotta work again in the morning, so I'm off to bed!

Ba ba ba ba

Kyla is really starting to jabber! She isn't shy, that's for sure! She makes her presence known where ever we are.
FYI- in the middle of this video, she gets distracted by the dog. And please excuse the belch at the end!
Today Kyla drank some diluted apple juice from a sippy cup for the first time! Up until now, she wouldn't have anything to do with juice. She would just make a bitter face and act like it was too tart. But, we're getting there. It's nice that she can have little "snacks" and not have to nurse as often. She still loves to eat her veggies and will eat some fruits, if you sneak them in.
Today is Monday, and again the weather is bad. Swim class was cancelled for the second time in three weeks. Disappointing!
I work every day this week through Friday (thankfully some are only 4 hour shifts), and then we are meeting my parents and sister in Omaha for the weekend! I'm so excited to have a little mini-vacation. Work has been so busy and stressful lately. It's time to get away and enjoy some time with my hubby and baby and the family!

Swim Lessons Started!

We finally started our swim class last night. There were nine kids in the class and Kyla was by far the youngest. I'm guessing most of the kids were between 1-2 years old, but it was still fun. I feel like some of the things were way over Kyla's head, but the instructor told me that she'll still catch on to some things. As parents, we helped the kids kick and stretch their arms in the water. We also did back floating and "swimming" after toys. Kyla did very well and loved the water. She was so cute in her little suit! Greg came along to watch. The instructor told us all that both parents can participate in the water, so next time Greg doesn't have to work, he'll probably join in the fun.
On Friday, Kyla had her 6 month Doctor appointment. She weighed 18 pounds (85th percentile) and was 26.5 inches long (75th percentile). In Dr. Bruxvoort's words, "She's back on the charts." Ever since she was born she's been in the 95+ percentile, so I'm glad she's starting to slow down a little. She has some eczema patches on the back of her legs that we are trying to heal up with Aveeno cream, otherwise she's perfectly healthy!
I worked all weekend, and on Sunday when I came home from my 12-hour shift, Greg informed me that Kyla learned something new... she can stick out her tongue! She thinks she's pretty cool when she does it, but it looks ridiculous! I'll see if I can get a good picture of it to post on here. Another new thing is her "dancing". When we hold her on our laps, she sways back and forth, almost in a bouncing motion. She also started making a new noise... an almost growling squeal at the top of her lungs. She's so noisy!
